.:: housefloor interview :: chelonis r. jones

living in:
europe/germany
real name
chelonis ridgeway jones
date of birth
around the late 19oo's
housefloor.de: how did you start to be crazy about electronic music and what fascinates you about it?
chelonis r. jones:

i was fucking fed up with my 23 rockgroups, and all else in connection! needed a change of scenery!

housefloor.de: who has besides of yourself the most influence on you and your music?
chelonis r. jones: indie music of the 70's (can, throbbing gristle, ect.) and early 80's (the smiths, bauhaus, ect.)
......oh, and fleetwood mac's masterpiece "rhiannon"!!!!!

housefloor.de: how do you get new ideas for productions? what inspires you?
chelonis r. jones: my early years on the streets........my loneliness and coy madness...poetry...aggression!

housefloor.de: how do you handle new techniques? do you think that on the long run the new techniques in djing with cds or even pc-mixing will prevail?
chelonis r. jones: i don't wish to sound like a dinosaur, but modern life devours its young!!! modernize your soul instead!!! just think how great the world would become!

housefloor.de: which importance has technical development for your productions and which influence does it have on your live and the decision to become a musician? would you have become a pianist or a drummer if there were no turntables, computers and sound machines?
chelonis r. jones: i've always wanted to be a pianist or guitarist, and i'm annoyed with myself because of my lack of development in this field of music. i always feel i could been more. computers/turntables are not instruments - they are tools; wondrous inventions - which, dare i say it, improve life (on a somewhat short-term basis).

housefloor.de: how much do you react on the vibrations of the party crowd while djing or playing live or is your show pre-structured as far as possible?
chelonis r. jones:

with my liveshows there is always a chance of a riot.....and i'm slightly ashamed of this. i'm very radical as a human being in general. i had a show where this kid kept telling me "no vocals!" during half of my live set. the crowd went beautifully crazy at my arrival, but this kid wouldn't let me live. so i stopped the entire set handed him 10euro for a mc d.'s happy meal - told him that his friend would sms his silly ass when i finished my set...i gave him the middlefinger, told him to fuck off!! the crowd went totally nuts!!!!!!!!!! the promoter fell in love with my sex pistol-like actions, and now he wants me to return
this summer!! i'm usually hugged, kissed, laughed at, obsessively stared at, mistaken for a girl and flirted with (even when it's clear that i'm not. people hear much about me, and want to know if i'm real or a freak -98% leave the show thinking: both!!?

in italy, one fan even went as far as to stop me from singing, then hug me, saying: "you are real, not producer's studiotrick!" - very strange indeed. it just shows how desperate the music scene needs real personalities, and not polished test lab rabbits.

housefloor.de: what can always be found in your fridge?
chelonis r. jones: cheese!

housefloor.de: which tendencies do you see in the electronic music scene?
chelonis r. jones: more individuals!! more intelligence!!! more balls!!!!?

housefloor.de: what can we expect from you in near future and what are your aims?
chelonis r. jones:

more annoyed enemies...more obsessive fans.
change the game - or stay the same!
oh, stay alive...and live to stay!?
au revoir.
