housefloor.de: how did you start to be crazy about electronic music and what fascinates you about it?
noirdegout:

enola:
my first real electronic music experiment is conected with my big passion for cinema: blade runner original soundtrack composed by vangelis. ican still remember the way it deeply touched my heart with its melancholy and great lyricism.
later i discovered pink floyd!! they gave me the taste for aerial harmonies, that is essential for the music i want to produce!
small town boy (bronsky beat), the power (snap) and enjoy the silence (depeche mode) teached me the way to jump and cry on a dance-floor!!
then i felt in love with the great 90s trip-hop classics unfinished sympathy by massive attack, londinium lp by archive and dummy lp by portishead.
and to finish, manu pushed me to listen to early trance and techno anthems and at this time i realized this music fit perfectly with my own obsessions:romanticism and energy!
my all times classics? "shapes under water", "acid eiffel" (and maybe all the records produced by daddy laurent garnier), "journey to the martian polar cap" available on red planet, "desire" by 69 aka carl craig, "theme from it's all gone pershaped" by digital justice on fragile, "airspace" by darren price,"theme from a neon city" bytechnasia ...and many others!

flappy:
when i was young, my parents used to listen to the radio all day long. i was always enjoying when they broadcasted some disco sounds (donna summer, gloria gaynor...) , i remember, one day they played some kraftwerk stuff and i was really impressed !
i ve always been seduced by music that make you dance , synthetic music.
but the first track that introduced me in techno was hithouse : jack to the sound of the underground , in 1987.
then, some radio djs from dijon played the first house tracks : s express, lill louis, marshall jefferson, inner city, derrrick may...i really loved the chicago early house , the first detroit records, and the new beat coming from belgium !!
i lived near dijon, and it was one of the first european techno club there, called lan-fer.
laurent garnier was the resident-dj every month between 1990 and 1994. dijon became the french techno city with montpellier & paris. many radios from dijon played that music. my musical culture come from these radios because i was to young to go to lan-fer.
but, when i got my driving licence i became a regular costumer there. something was happening in this club, it was the place to be !!! laurent garnier , and then derrick may, jeff mills, juan atkins, scan x, miss kittin, daft punk, orbital...evrerybody played there !!!
i think the moments i lived, listening to my old radio at home and then at lan-fer were so intensive...that i need now to to communicate these sensation to the others...with my own radio show, and our music

housefloor.de: how do you influence each other in the way you experience music?
noirdegout: enola:
i think manu is more obsessed than me by the dance-floor energy our tracks need.
my work is more focussed on a melodious plan... but to be really honest, ive to say that its a little caricatural way to discribe ourselves!

flappy:
i agree with matt, my rave background is always in my mind when i make music, but rave doesnt mean only energy , its also about emotions, i love the old rave anthem like lunatic asylum , aurora borealis...
we try to do music that satisfy our need of energy and emotions. i think that matt , as me need it to appreciate a track. if i do something furious & hard , he will put some deep emotive strings on it , but if he does a hard minimal stuff...i ll try to do a hot bassline !!

housefloor.de: in 2005 you've found your own label no fear records. why did you decide to do that and what's its philosophy?
noirdegout: you know, we've sent o lot of demos and despite of great feedbacks from technasia, f-com (and a few others i forgot...sorry) we never licensed our tracks.
with our label we pretend to be able to do good and personal music, better than those uglypercussions loops shits edited by wanabe jeff mills (hes talented...theyre really not) or boring minimal techno tunes.
we really apreciate mattew johnson or lucianos works for example, but too many producers made this kind of techno because its so hype!
we have to feel the heart, soul and guts of an artist when we liten to his work...so we always give all we ve got when we produce ...its not always perfect but its sincere!
fuck the hype !!we want to share our passion without hypocrisy !
so if we can do that with nice sleeves... lets go :)

housefloor.de: the first two releases on no fear are made by yourselves and were immediately top charted by dave clarke, laurent garnier, fabrice lig and many more. could you please describe your working together. who does what when you make a song?
noirdegout: enola: we work in turns behind the machines..its the best way to seek through all the personal ideas we have.
but you know its a chaotic process not based on a scientific method! we just look for a jumpy rythm or beautiful
sounds that touch us deeply.
the ultimate test is to check manus behaviour when he listen to our work: if he wants to dance..thats it!! :)

flappy: wen we find something, we know it imedialtly...sometime you have to search an idea during hours , day or even weeks , but our best track were made in a few hours.
we also often work on our live-act , it always evolute , its never the same , and we often find our best ideas working on it.

housefloor.de: you have met each other 1997 in besancon. there you have participated to the creation of radio campus besancon and worked for it as electronic music providers and djs. which importance do you think did this have for your career as djs?
noirdegout: in france, the majority of the ravers listen to french-hardcore and only want to go in free hardcore event. we dont have a real club scene here.
they are a few good places to listen to good music : rex club , pulp...in paris , somes clubs in montpellier , bordeaux , lyon, and avignon. thats all. there are a few nice festivals like electromind in montpellier , astropolis , nuits sonores...thats all !!! i f you want to do a career as a dj , you need to export yourself in germany , spain , brasil, uk...
we have many good artists in france , but no real techno scene as you have in germany.
thats why we created our own label : to export our music and find gigs in foreign country.
so, for me, our activities on radio campus are a pleasure and a way to stay in touch with all the new artists s and records, but cant promote our music in a country that doenst like electronic music.

housefloor.de: how do you handle new techniques? do you think that on the long run the new techniques in djing with cds or even pc-mixing will prevail?
noirdegout: enola: unfortunatly i think so!! ...and it sucks!!
if the vinyl material disapears..well have to mix with mp3 and cds...but you know were definitly fetishistic men and we love so these records with nice sleeves!!

flappy: im an oldschool guy !!...for me , releasing a record means to create an object , a thing.
i need to have a record , an mp3files is nothing, even if you download music...you dont have that record.
i like to touch vinyl , to read the informations on the sleeve , to go in a store , to speak with the salesman...and to have a heartbreak when i find the record i looked for so many years !!
i dont like playing cds, but maybe i will have no choice in the future, the vinyl sales are so ridiculous now , that many labels will stop to do it in a near future i think.

housefloor.de: what can always be found in your fridges?
noirdegout: enola: maybe vinyl records during summer time!! and a martini bottle or a rhum one!

flappy: nothing !!! i live near a grocers shop, so , i buy fresh food everyday !

enola: bravo flap !! say no to junk food! :)

housefloor.de: what can we expect from you in the near future and which are your aims for your career?
noirdegout: flappy: well try to do more & more live-act everywhere , its the better way to find new ideas , to evolute..
well also release an ep on laurent garniers label : f...u ! / f-comm, and new ep on no fear.
we would really like to travel a lot and play in foreign coutries like japan, eastern europe, south america...

enola: ... to taste diferent kinf of whores and cocaines...you promised it to me man!! :)
