you have started djing in 1986 and have consequently rocked the floors throughout the years. what is it that keeps you hungry about playing in the clubs? |
funk d'void: |
the need for connection, for sharing the same feeling i have for the music i play. every gig i do is like my first, i can‘t get enough! |

you come from scottland, live in spain now and also often play in germany. what are in your eyes the differences in the electronic music scenes in the different countries? |
funk d'void: |
different countries have different views and scenes, you get to know how and what to play over the years - it‘s one thing i love doing, is watching people react to music. i have a pretty good idea of how to gauge a crowd before i perform. 20 years is a long time studying! |

you moved to barcelona in 1999. why did you decide to do so and how did this change your life? |
funk d'void: |
i felt the need to experience a new culture, a fresh way of life. i knew things could be better abroad in some aspects, but i do miss scotland sometimes. not the weather of course... but for me i felt i had to broaden my horizons. it happens to a lot of people approaching 30. |

recently you have worked together with artists like alexander kowalski, phil kieran or ken ishii. what is important for you in the personality of an artist you work together with? which traits of character can‘t you stand at all? |
funk d'void: |
i have to like their music first and personality second. i‘m lucky in that all of the producers i have worked with have turned out to be good friends. there is no room for ego when hanging out with me, i don‘t really see this a lot in electronic music. i guess the passion takes over anything else when you get involved with this music. we‘re blessed! |

how you get new ideas for productions? what inspires you? |
funk d'void: |
beauty inspires me. i love women and that moment when i see someone that makes me go crazy for her, is when i write the best music. |

how do you handle new techniques? do you think that on the long run the new techniques in djing with cds or even pc-mixing will prevail? |
funk d'void: |
i embrace new technology. being a producer you have to. i stopped using vinyl because i discovered new ways to push the medium forward to new levels. it‘s a matter of personal choice. i choose software because it sounds better on the dancefloor. |

funk d'void: |
well it‘s stopped at the moment. francois dubois seems to be taking me over these days!!
i do like deep house a lot, and this name enables me to change my styles.
