real name
alexi delano
living in
brooklyn, new york
year of birth
1973

housefloor.de: a few weeks ago a new album by you and jesper dahlbäck called
"chronicle of the urban dwellers" has been released.
how come that you made it together? how long do you know each other?
alexi delano:

we have known each other for about 14 years. we used to work at the same record store in stockholm in the early 90's. some years later we recorded our first album on earthtones rec. making this second album just came naturally to us. we both enjoy working together and become like little kids in a candy store when we get in the studio. we jam 90 % of the time and drink coffee and talk about life the other 10 %

housefloor.de: how did you work together for the album, in a studio or by sending sounds via internet or both?
alexi delano: mainly it was me going to sweden back and forth a few times. some of the vocals were done and fine tuned in n.y., but for the most part it was all recorded in jespers’ studio in stockholm.

housefloor.de: you were born in chile, grew up in sweden and now live in new york. why did you move to new york and how has this changed your life?
alexi delano: at the time that i moved to new york i was looking for new inspirations and was curious about new york. when i arrived to this giant city i fell in love with it. it inspired me in many ways, and it still does. i don’t know what it is exactly, but i think it’s just the energy and the diversity of the city.

housefloor.de: you have a lot of gigs all around the world. what are, in your eyes, the greatest differences in the electronic music scenes?
alexi delano: i think the ambiance. every city has its on ambiance, its own pulse and many times one can easily feel it. then the countries economy is also a big difference and influences party events and of course the culture. i could elaborate much more but maybe on another occasion.

housefloor.de: how do you get new ideas for productions? what inspires you?
alexi delano: it’s a complicated question. ideas just come to me anywhere and at any time. most of the times i just sit in front of the computer or my roland tr606 synced to my sh101 and start writing patterns. if a good groove or bass line comes out i immediately work from there and see where it takes me.

housefloor.de: how do you handle new techniques? do you think that in the long run the
new techniques in djing with cd or even pc-mixing will prevail?
alexi delano: i love technology; anything high-tech usually catches my eye. i started with vinyl many years ago and i still love it. it hurts every time i answer similar questions when i say that i have slowly but surely been moving on and play more and more cds. it first started because i was excited to play my new tunes and couldn’t wait for the test pressings so cd’s were the answer. a big part of the record industry is also contributing to this since they are now using more cd’s as promos because it’s faster and less costly. in that sense, if you like the music on the promo cd’s or you’d like to play your stuff out, then there is no other way to do it than to use cds.

housefloor.de: what can always be found in your fridge?
alexi delano: white wine and veggie burgers.

housefloor.de: what is the first thing you do when you come home from a gig or the studio?
alexi delano: eat something, especially when i work in the studio. i tend to not eat for many hours without noticing it but as soon as i finish i realize that i’m starving.

housefloor.de: what can we expect from you in the near future and which are your aims for your career?
alexi delano: release wise, i have a few ep’s coming out with my other partner in crime xpansul on trapez. i have a solo ep with a remix by samuel l session coming out on adam beyer’s truesoul recordings and i gave troy pierce and magda a track for their items and things label. on another note, i have been getting into post-production lately.
