In a few days your new compilation “Boogybytes Vol. 5” will be released. It features some very individual tracks. How did you choose the tracks for this compilation? |
Seth Troxler: |
Yeah I think its just about to drop. I came up with all the songs, just by thinking about what could be cool to listen to, and what would be right for Bpitch. It sounds a bit boring I know, but I really just sat down called a few of my friends, sent out some mails to see if anyone had anything new they were working on and tried to put it together. I also wanted to make something that wasn't just hits, and wasn't the pumping club jam thing, but something you could check out in the car or at the office, or just pop on at the afters and know, “hey music is taken care of, I can focus on something else.” |

How came up the idea to work together with the label BPitch Control?
Seth Troxler: |
Well they came up with the idea. Ellen thought I was “phunky fresh” and could make something cool. I think it was a combination of things, our Visionquest remix of Kiki's good voodoo did great, and I think Sacha, and kiki also were on the side of hey, Seth could be cool. I was really honoured to be the first guy to do the mix from outside of their crew. Fingers crossed I hope it does well. |

You come from the capital of Techno Detroit. Now you have been living in Berlin for three years. Why did you decide to move to Berlin? How do the music and the people in Berlin influence your style in music? |
Seth Troxler: |
Well, I decided to move because I had been coming to Berlin since about 2003 to summer there hang with my friend Shaun Reeves, then to tour. So when I made the real decision to move, I had just graduated University, and two of my best friends Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss who I lived with were at a point in their life where they wanted some change. So, the summer before I think it was 2007 we were all in berlin and just kind of decided, I think one day at Club der Visionäre, Yeah let’s move next summer, and see if we can do it. So we did it. I think the city influenced me in many ways, how relaxed it was how the vibe of the people, all the different artists, just being able to be me was awesome. But at the same time I think, being in berlin has taken away from my creative process, I made lot more music in Detroit. |

You have never sent anybody a demo nor spread a promo mix. Still you have releases on a bunch of labels such as Wagon Repair, Souvenir, Crosstown Rebels and Spectral. How did that all work out for you? |
Seth Troxler: |
Yeah funny, well I fun. I've been fortunate to have made friends with a lot of the people who I guess have some power in dance music, and they have wanted to work with me. A lot of the time conversations came up after that I was even doing music. Kind of this ha ha were having a great time. Then months later they were like, “Dude you are Seth Troxler” or “ WTF you make music” and I guess my talent has gotten me past that point. But I defiantly got my foot in the door just by being fun and cool. Being nice to people not just to get somewhere just in general in life, karma is 4realz.

How do you assess the current situation of Techno? |
Seth Troxler: |
I think its in a really cool place, I think there is a lot of room to move, and I like that. I see some people taking risk, and see a lot of people getting sick of these live fast, die quick trends. But I hope to see people bridge the gap more between this scene and pop, yes Crossover, I said it. But it’s not a bad thing. Look at Fever Ray, you can live in both worlds and do both in a really cool way. Right now were looking to make Visionquest into a full on live thing for like festivals and so on. I think that's what’s so cool about dance music is: you can be who ever you want, each aliases and be a different you, and that allows so much room as an artist. It’s a true creative dream, other genera's don't have space to move, we’re lucky. |

You have a couple of aliases such as Sex Trothler and Thrill Cosby. How do they differ from what you produce as Seth Troxler?
Seth Troxler: |
With Sex Trothler, is this sleazy part of me wishing he was prince. The Thrill Cosby was a way where I could work with my friends at M-nus and do more the techno thing. Where I keep my own name for whatever is left, Hahha. I think Seth Troxler as an artist is going to be more pop, more full on we'll see, I changed what I wanted to order for breakfast 5x this morning so who knows. |

You went to school for graphic design and were planning on doing that. In which moment did you realise that you could be able to live on making dance music? |
Seth Troxler: |
Well, I didn't really realize I could make a living threw dance music before I just went for it. Forever I had no idea there was money to be made till I started coming to Europe and got this whole, “wow, this is like an industry” I really had no clue, but I honestly just started to be able to live decent with this in the past 7 months so its still kind of a new concept. One thing for sure it beats working for some prick in an office. I don't think so. |

What are you up to in the next months? |
Seth Troxler: |
Well, I'm on a crazy tour right now, for the Boogybytes as well as teaming up with the Crosstown Rebel crew for their Rebel Rave World tour. I've been out of my house for three months right now go home to berlin for a week then back on the road here in the states for WMC, then off to OZ.
I have a great new redresses coming up on Circus Company where I did the vocals for Deetron, and this is what I think to be neo-acid classic “Each Step.”
Then this summer you can catch me in Ibiza at my summer residency with the Circo Loco crew at DC-10, woop woop should be hella fun, and I hope to see you all there. |
