| michel started spinning in 1987 as a dj on hiphop-jams in the stuttgart area. working in a recordstore around 1990 brought him to the house-sound of chicago, and tapes from the infamous electrifying mojo show gave him a first impresssion of serious electronic music from europe and overseas. playing around with keyboards and drumboxes over layered records were the babysteps to some own tracks or edits. in 1993 he learned to produce and record on broadcast-equipment during a three years job as a sound-engineer at a tv-production studio, later working at the sound-department of the stuttgart musical theatres, while he continually built his own studio over the years, in 1996 he released his first 12" under the moniker of jackmate on c-rocks stir15 label, with a follow up in 1997. the third jackmate 12" release in 1999 was for a new label called poker flat. in 1999 michel also started his second alias soulphiction with a first release on dessous records. 2000: together with tobi ettle of the paulsmusique recordstore he gave birth to philpot-records and in 2004 they opened the subdivision phil_e. well known for his absolutely non semi-live live-sets as jackmate or as soulphiction together with suzana rozkosny, he will also start touring in 2007 with his live-combo manmadescience, featuring nik reiff and phlegmatic to present their album-release "one". |
