das erste jahrzehnt

seit mehr als zehn jahren spielt mijk van dijk ganz oben in der elektronischen musikszene mit. er begann zunächst hardtechno-scheiben zu produzieren, bevor er 1992 den weg für melodischeren techno ebnete und später zum pionier eines neuen sounds namens trance wurde.

damals schrieb mijk einige tracks, die zu techno-klassikern wurden, wie etwa marmions „schoeneberg“ sowie microglobes „high on hope“ oder auch „environ-mentality“ und „all our colours“.

mijk produzierte zudem zusammen mit vielen anderen künstlern wie dj hell, claude young, tanith, takkyu ishino, thomas schumacher, toby izui, namito, rob acid, tom wax, asem shama und martin eyerer.

remixe produzierte mijk van dijk bisher zum beispiel für moby, denki groove, humate, arpeggiators und sonic animation.

multi-mijk

von beginn an hat mijk unter mehreren pseudonymen seine tracks veröffentlicht. so hat das deutsche techno-magazin „frontpage“ bald die bezeichnung „multi-mijk“ geprägt. nach den ersten singles bei dem berliner label low spirit, bash und mfs hat mijk gemeinsam mit cosmic baby die wahrscheinlich erste trance- und chillout-compilation gemacht. mit seinem projekt loopzone schuf er einen der schnellsten techno-tracks überhaupt und veröffentlichte als microglobe seine ersten clubhits sowie 1994 sein debütalbum „afreuropamericasiaustralica“.

1996 wurde der track „the wildlife“ von mijk's magic marble box ausgewählt für den soundtrack eines deutschen tv-werbespots für renault. im selben jahr brachte er weitere singles raus und auch sein zweites album mit seinem richtigen namen.

so lautet der name von mijks drittem album. die idee dabei war es, ein album herauszubringen, bestehend aus produktionen zusammen mit befreudeten künstlern wie thomas schumacher, claude young, toby izui, humate, quazar oder paul m. mijk van dijk selbst mag die synergieeffekte, die sich aus so fruchtbaren koproduktionen ergeben.

bereits 1991 hat van dijk mit tanith dessen erste singles produziert und zwei koproduktionen zu dj hells debütalbum geliefert. darüber hinaus entstand sein bislang größter hit „schoeneberg“ gemeinsam mit marcos lopez unter dem projektnamen marmion. in der technoszene ist „schoeneberg“ als eine der grundlegendsten elektronischen veröffentlichungen angesehen.

everyground

„ich wollte nie das machen, was alle machen. begriffe wie overground und underground sind mir total egal. meine musik geht überall hin, deshalb nenne ich sie everyground. mit herausragenden kritiken markiert das vierte, bei superstition erschienene album „everyground“ einen weiteren meilenstein in mijk van dijks karriere.

gameboy

in japan ist mijk nicht nur als dj, performer und produzent bekannt, sondern auch als „gamer“. er lieferte soundtracks für vier playstation-spiele. legendär sind auch seine live-acts mit nichts außer einer playstation im jahr 1996. bis heute ist mijk 22 mal durch japan getourt und hat dabei 61 gigs gespielt.

das zweite jahrzehnt

im jahr 2003 hatte mijk die ehre, den sound von superstition records zu prägen. auf der mix-cd „decade – the mix“ verarbeitet er die highlights des gesamt backkatalog in einen aufregenden mash-up-mix, bestehend aus 70 tracks aus zehn jahren labelgeschichte. mijk van dijk vermischt dies mit hilfe der revolutionären software ableton live 1.5.

2006

„große teile der heutigen musik sind von den jahren um 1992, 1993 inspiriert und ich kenne diese musik gut, weil ich dabei geholfen habe sie zu entwickeln und zu formen!“ mijk ist beschäftigt wie nie zuvor und hat gleich eine ganze reihe von neuen platten bei verschiedenen labels am start. mit freude erwartet und dann bejubelt wurde etwa die gemeinsam mit martin eyerer produzierte 12“ „closer“ bei kling klong sowie die „bass erstaunt ep“ unter seinem pseudonym plato beim holländischen big & dirty.

for over one decade, mijk van dijk has been  acting on the forefront of the electronic dance music scene.

multi-mijk
since the beginning of his career  he  released  tunes  under  different  pseudonyms.  soon the legendary  german techno magazine  „frontpage“ coined  the  term „multi-mijk“.  after his first single releases  on berlin-based  labels as low spirit, bash and mfs he worked  with cosmic baby  on the probably  first trance/ chillout-compilation ever. with his project loopzone he created  one  of the fastest techno tunes in history and released  as microglobe his first club hits und 1994 his first album „afreuropamericasiaustralica´.

this is the name of mijk's third album that he created with dj-producer  friends  like thomas schumacher, claude young, toby izui, humate, quazar  or paul m (aka kid paul of energy 52). van dijk likes the synergy  effect, that emerges out of fruitful cooperations.
already  in 1991 he produced with dj tanith his first singles and delivered two co-productions for dj hell's first album. also his biggest hit so far „schoeneberg“ was made  in collaboration with marcos lopez  under  the project name  marmion. „schoeneberg“ is  highly acclaimed  in the techno world as one of the most ground-breaking electronic music tunes ever.

„i never wanted to do, what everybody else does. i just don´t care for terms like „overground“ and „underground“. my music can go everywhere, that's why i call it „everyground“. highly acclaimed by the critics his 4th album „everyground“ (superstition) marked  another  leap in his carreer.

in japan mijk is not only known as a dj, performer  and producer (even famous soccer player hidetoshi nakata outed himself as mijk van dijk fan on his homepage), but also as a „gamer“. he distributed soundtracks  for 4 playstation-games. already legendary  are  his live acts with nothing but a playstation in 1996. so far mijk has toured  japan 22 times to play 61 gigs.

decade
in 2003 mijk mixed a final definition of  the sound of superstition records  with a new  breed of mix cd: on „deacde – the mix“, released  in 2003, he remixed  the highlights of  the whole backcatalogue   into one  exciting  mash-up-mix  composed  from 70 tracks  out of 10 years of label history using a then unique  and ground-breaking software called ableton live 1.5.

2006
„ a lot of music these days borrows their ideas from the years of 1992 and 1993 and i know this music well, since i helped to invent and shape it!“ mijk is as busy as never before with a string of new releases on several labels.
his highly acclaimed new 12“'s on kling klong (mijk van dijk – closer-ep, co-produced by martin eyerer) and big & dirty (plato – bass erstaunt-ep) are already out and there is more in the pipeline.
