born in boston, massachusetts and raised in madison, wisconsin (u.s.a.), azania always aspired to become a
professional singer. even at the tender age of 6, she was always the first amongst her peers to sign up for school and
church choirs. all throughout her youth she sought after opportunities to share her voice with the world.
in 1991, the opportunity to spread her talent truly manifested itself when she moved to geneva, switzerland, where her
professional singing career began. within a year, she joined the well-renowned hip-hop band, duty free. the group
released their debut album, elimin‘hate - fear of a united planet in 1995 with the support of producers from los angeles,
california. ultimately, azania benefited from this experience in many ways, most importantly through the contacts she
made. doors opened, leading to multitudinous opportunities to voice her talent.
she has worked in various bands, recorded on over a dozen albums, and performed in major music festivals both
internationally and nationally. moreover, 1998 brought azania to paris, france on three occasions to compete with other
vocalists in the popular french television showcase ‚graines de star‘ (an m6 broadcast). she shared the stage with
many established artists, notably ricky martin, sheryl crow and lara fabian. on all three occasions she unleashed her
vocal prowess and took center stage with three jaw-dropping wins. amongst the most fascinating qualities of azania‘s
voice are its versatility and richness. she is at ease in a large array of different musical genres from soul and gospel to
jazz and opera.
azania continues to perform extensively and to collaborate on numerous projects, notably in house music. amongst
these is „dance to heaven” which she created with club session for the u.s. music label, chez music. more
recently, azania and the mix2inside team began their precious collaboration with “show me a sign”, released under
the name of zahra. |
